Fleeting Forms

The brief was to design a project centred around a personal under-standing of “perfect imperfection”. My idea for the project is based my view of life, where, as humans we strive for perfection in our lives, but reality usually presents us with imperfect outcomes. In time, we learn to see that, ironically, these imperfect outcomes overall can form a perfect life.

My view on life is metaphorically reflected using tree forms, because perfection is only seen in a tree’s form, through its innate imperfection of form. Just like the recognition of perfection in one’s life, this innate perfection in a tree’s form, can only be achieved through time.

To present my concept, I curated a photography exhibition, featuring perfectly imperfect tree forms. The photographs were taken over five months, to really capture the ever evolving imperfection of form.

The exhibition is accompanied by a leaflet containing real life experiences of people, who concluded that perfection in life was only achieved by lived imperfections.

My exhibition works by contextualising imperfect tree forms, with imperfect life experiences, fully immersing the viewer in the theme of the project.
